European Union students

Citizens from the European Union do not need a Visa to enter Spain just a valid identity card or passport.
Students from the Countries of the European Union that have not signed Schengen Treaty, must have a valid passport to enter Spain (UK, Ireland and new members of the EU as Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malt, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia).

Students from outside European Union

Before enrolling, students must contact the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in their country:

The process to issue a Visa may take several months. Therefore, we advise to start the application as soon as possible.

Be aware that if you enter in Spain with a tourist visa, it is not then possible to obtain a student visa to extend your stay. Even if you initially think you will be in the country for less than 90 days, it is worth to apply for a student visa in your own country for this will enable you to prolong your stay in Spain if you should wish.
